Microsoft Named a Leader in Gartner’s Public Cloud Storage Services for Second Consecutive Year
Gartner research recently published their Magic Quadrant for Public Cloud Storage Services and recognized Microsoft Azure as a leader for the second year in a row based on completeness of our vision and ability to execute. This comes at the heel of recent independent research report by Nasuni where Azure Storage is recognized as the best performer in benchmark tests. Gartner’s report further substantiates Microsoft’s position as the only vendor named a leader across Gartner Magic Quadrants for IaaS, Application PaaS, and Cloud Storage.
The amount of digital data produced each year is growing exponentially. According to IDC, by 2020 total digital data will be close to 40 Zetabytes (40,000,000PBs) and majority of it will be stored in cloud. Microsoft Azure Storage is very well positioned to help our customers scale their storage in cloud at a lower cost, all while maintaining high durability and availability. In addition, as our Storage offerings will be available in 22 regions worldwide soon, customers can choose to select their storage location closer to where their applications run, and can scale their solution to meet global demand.

Microsoft Azure is the only cloud provider to offer customers comprehensive options to select among Local Redundant Storage (LRS), Zone Redundant Storage (ZRS), Geo Redundant Storage (GRS) and Read-Access Geo Redundant Storage (RA-GRS). You learn more about each of these options and pricing here.
Customers looking for comprehensive Cloud storage offering and enterprise solutions can depend on Azure Storage. We provide the following cloud storage offerings – Block Blobs, Page Blobs and Disks, Tables and Queues and Files. You can learn more about each offering by starting with Introduction to Azure Storage and watching Azure Storage overview video. Azure Cloud Storage is also well integrated with other Microsoft products such as StorSimple, Azure Backup and Azure Site Recovery enabling customers to seamlessly tier their enterprise data growth to cloud, back up active data to cloud and recover data seamlessly in event of a disaster in a primary data center.
Finally, we continuously innovate on Azure Storage to address customer feedback. This is evidenced by the recent GA of Azure Premium Storage, which provides customers with the ability to run IO intensive workloads requiring low latency (e.g. SQL Server running on Azure VMs), reduce overall costs and experience incredible transaction speeds. Since launching Premium Storage, we have seen thousands of Azure customers benefit from the Virtual Machine performance. You can learn more about this offer here and Premium Storage overview.
